European Defence Matters (EDM) is the regular, official journal of the European Defence Agency (EDA), based in Brussels. EDA is an official European Union (EU) organisation established to assist Member States (of which there are currently 27) to increase the scope, commonality and efficiency of their national defence and security capabilities, in support of the EU Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP).
In addition to strengthening the European defence, technological and industrial base, known as EDTIB, the EDA has four principal areas of activity:
• development of defence capabilities;
• promotion of defence research and technology (R&T);
• promotion of armaments co-operation;
• the creation of a competitive European defence equipment market.
The Agency’s pooling and sharing initiative, for example, recognizes the growing interdependency of defence provision and strategically supports the efficiency requirements of member states while maintaining the capacity to respond swiftly to urgent operational requirements.
EDM is the only dedicated European defence journal designed specifically to address the issues of effective future defence procurement in Europe. It has a growing circulation of more than 10,000 copies, focused on senior decision makers within government and industry.
Contracted by the EDA in late 2011 to create the publication, PMI Media Limited has undertaken all publishing and commercial aspects of EDM from the outset. Everything from concept creation and design, through editorial development, advertising sales and distribution across Europe and in the United States is covered by the turnkey service PMI provides to the EDA as client.
